Title

Canyon Dawn

Multi-day canoe trips on the Rio Grande, as peaceful waters wend their way through Boquillas Canyon, offer the opportunity to immerse deeply into the vast, wild beauty of this spectacular part of Texas. Ancient walls tower over river and paddler alike, while scrambles through twisting side canyons offer a fascinating array of unique plants and fantastical rock formations. Quiet, rippling waters escort you through this magical place, underscoring a gentle soundtrack both day and night: the dip of the paddle, accompanied by the melodic song of water sliding against the hull; the occasional slap of a beaver's tail; a raven's call to its partner; or a wild burro's bray.

Artist Biography: Cathy Ramsey

Generations of Cathy’s family have lived in central Texas since the 1870s, and respect, enjoyment, and protection of its beautiful waters run deep. Cathy’s early exposure to watercolors in high school was reignited in retirement, which granted both time to explore and time to attempt to capture that wonder and beauty with journal, brush, and paint. After a career dedicated to environmental causes, time for pure enjoyment is a blessing that continues to fuel respect and protection. The incredible beauty of her home state will never grow old.

The water tells us many things, reflecting what's above, disguising what's below. Inviting us to stay awhile. This particular plein air oil painting (and in the studio) was at West Bull Creek, Austin. This painting leaned a bit more on the abstract while still keeping 'grounded'. This was painted just after the terrible flood in July. I call it Receding waters of Bull Creek.

Artist Biography: Bill Griffith

Bill was raised and lived in the wooded acres next to a river in Iowa. As a young artist, this began to influence his subject matter and style. Bill has worked in many mediums of art over his career. His oil paintings skills were transferred to architectural Tiffany style-stained glass. He also spent many years doing glass fusing incorporated into his window designs. He owned a glass studio doing mostly commission work for homes, churches and businesses in Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois.
In recent years, Bill moved to Austin and picked up his oil paints once again. He spends a significant amount of time doing plein air painting at the creeks, rivers and lakes around Austin and the Hill Country.

"We are so fortunate to have access to these beautiful, wooded trails around these bodies of water right in and near the city" Bill says, "Nature and creativity are the ticket to peacefulness."
