2024 IMPACT REPORT

Turning Vision Into Reality

The TLC staff and board continue to be inspired by the generosity and dedication of this incredible community. Opening a new preserve to the public is no small feat—hundreds of hours spent planning, digging, mowing, building, and sweating have resulted in a beautiful space where people can connect with nature. The opening of Malone Preserve on December 7, 2024, marked a major milestone, celebrating the people and partnerships that made the vision for this preserve a reality.

We are in awe of the community that powers not only the opening of new preserves, but the protection of thousands of acres across Texas. Your continued commitment to conservation is what drives our impact forward. We’re excited to celebrate the accomplishments we’ve achieved together in 2024.

Malone Preserve: Officially Opened in 2024!

After years of dedicated effort, TLC was proud to announce the official public opening of Malone Preserve at the end of 2024. Nestled in a biodiverse landscape, the preserve is a testament to the power of conservation, community collaboration, and shared stewardship of natural spaces.

Thanks to the hard work of volunteers and generous support from our partners, Malone Preserve is now open to the public on the first weekend of each month—offering a balance of access and protection for this special place.

Visitors are encouraged to walk the trails, join volunteer efforts, or support the preserve’s future through donations. Together, we’re ensuring Malone remains a place where nature and community meet—for generations to come.

A BIG Thank you to everyone who made it happen!

  • Community Volunteers, including the Rio Brazos Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist and local residents, were instrumental in preparing the preserve for public use.

  • H-E-B funded the construction of the new parking lot, enhancing access for visitors.

  • One Tree Planted supported prairie restoration, a crucial step in restoring native habitat.

  • BKV Energy, as the preserve’s Presenting Sponsor, will help advance restoration efforts over the next five years.

  • Friends of the Preserve continue to provide vital support, helping to sustain and grow the preserve’s impact.

Connecting Community with Nature

TLC staff is so grateful for the passion and knowledge you bring to this community—from exploring protected land with an enthusiastic toddler, to friendly competition over a beer, to campfire conversations and dedicated time spent helping open a new preserve. We feel incredibly lucky to share these moments with all of you. Thank you for continuing to be such an inspiring force for good.

YOU gave your time

Thank you to the 162 volunteers who donated their time (1,216 hours!) and energy at TLC-owned preserves across the state. We really can’t thank you enough.

YOU built community

We are so grateful for the 19 businesses who donated dollars or items like tacos for workdays or prizes for Texas Nature Trivia—you see the direct link between open spaces and your bottom line.

YOU made a commitment

493 of you joined as TLC members with a gift of $40 or more this year. You make all of this work possible, and we look forward to protecting even more land with you.
