2022 IMPACT REPORT

Celebrating 40 Years of Conservation Success

This remarkable year of conservation was made possible by the community that is Texas Land Conservancy. Together, we enjoyed twelve memorable events on the very land you have helped protect, immersing ourselves in the natural wonders of our preserved landscapes. Beyond the incredible experiences on the land, we achieved a historic milestone by adding 25 new properties to our permanently protected portfolio, marking the highest number of conservation projects completed in a single year throughout our forty-year history. Such extraordinary progress sets the stage for an exciting future as we embark on the next four decades of conservation in Texas. We owe this success to the unwavering dedication of our community of supporters, volunteers, and partners. Your steadfast contributions have been the lifeblood of our mission, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude for your support. Together, let us recount the inspiring stories of conservation triumphs and embrace the profound impact we have achieved in safeguarding the natural heritage of Texas.

Celebrating Together on the Land

What an incredible year on the land! We can hardly contain our excitement as we reflect on the unforgettable moments we shared while commemorating TLC's 40th anniversary alongside all of you. We kicked off the year with our 1st Day Hike at Oak Cliff Nature Preserve in Dallas, setting the tone for a year of exploring nature together. We paid tribute to our incredible volunteers, honoring their invaluable contributions, as we celebrated 30 years of stewardship at Marysee Prairie. We commemorated two decades of preserving the natural wonders of Chalk Mountain Preserve, exploring the land with hikes and hayrides. Throughout the year we also walked among spring wildflowers, searched for Golden-cheeked warblers, and enjoyed the sights and sounds of critters that only come out after dark.  We camped under the pineywoods, chatted by the warmth of a crackling campfire, studied the night sky, and even learned about sustainable ranch management. The greatest pleasure of all, however, was the privilege of time on the land with an extraordinary community that embodies passion, care, and an unwavering love for nature.

Without our dedicated community, we would not be able to make such wonderful memories on the land we all love.

Celebrating Our Partners in Conservation

Throughout the year, we shared stories about the land through the eyes of our landowners who made a commitment to conservation with TLC. Without these passionate individuals, these scenic views along flowing rivers, wild prairies, restored grasslands, and woodland habitats would be vulnerable to the increased development we are seeing across Texas. These stories are beautiful insights into how different people come to value wild places. Some are lucky enough to inherit these natural gems, some were able to find a little piece of Texas to call their own, and some have discovered communities of people that share a need for inspiring landscapes.

These places represent not only what Texas is now, but what will be protected and remain in 100 years and beyond.
